HOLLY SPRINGS, Ga. – The Holly Springs City Council approved a construction budget for the Town Center Project road development at a city council meeting held on March 19.

Holly Springs reaches a milestone in the project. The Town Center area will feature homes, offices, stores and multi-use developments.

Southeastern Engineering Inc. will provide the city traffic engineering solutions to determine road improvements and connectivity between the roadways of Town Center. The company has worked on previous projects for the city of Holly Springs.

This agreement will provide the preliminary work for the road improvement network that needs to be constructed around the Town Center area. This includes new access and end for Palm Street, and new access on Hickory Road to the Town Center. This will cost the city $15,500.

City Manager Robert Logan said the city has been working on this project for roughly 10 years. “Initially, road network and infrastructure will be put in first. Things like sewer and water,” said Logan.

Pro Tem Mayor Michael Zenchuk said, “Tonight focused on the road improvement opportunities we’re going to have. We’re gonna have more studies done for our downtown area and our bypass that continues to be a big topic that we work on… and we’ve been working on it for a while.”

Holly Springs City Council also voted in favor of the creation of a downtown entertainment district. “That’s something we’ve been working on for a while, too, it goes hand-in-hand with our Town Center project. The city’s been acquiring property for 10 years and putting all of that together to build the downtown area,” said Logan.

Questions arose from the mayor and other council members about the land surveying of the highway. Logan said the property was previously surveyed when it was purchased and will be surveyed again for accuracy. Construction is expected to begin later this year.

The council also avoided a vote on the annual subscription and the account between Accella, Inc. and the city by tabling the decision until the next work session.

The notion to open a Special Local Option Sales Tax V (SPLOST V) checking account was approved. This account will fund the construction of the Holly Springs widening project.

The financial report for February is now available and the Easter Egg Hunt for the city will be on Saturday, March 24. The next meeting will be held April 18.
